  • Our History

Juniper Woodland Primary School owes its beginnings to the dedication and foresight of Reverend Thomas Wilkins, a prominent figure in the local community during the late 18th century. Reverend Wilkins played a crucial role in establishing the Wilkins Trust, which funded the construction of the original school on land owned by the Trust. The school was initially built to serve several nearby villages, fulfilling a vital need for education in the area.

In 1937, the Trust acquired additional land and constructed a new primary school building to accommodate the growing number of students. The former school was repurposed as a secondary school until its closure in 1962.

In the early 1990s, Juniper Woodland expanded once again with the opening of a dedicated reception class for younger pupils. By 1996, the school had undergone a major redevelopment, with new buildings funded by the Department for Education.

The secondary school site, which had been disused for many years, was sold in 2003, and the proceeds were used by the Wilkins Trust to build a new Community Hall adjacent to the primary school. This hall remains a valuable resource for both the school and the wider community. Additionally, funds from the sale were invested to support the ongoing development of the school for future generations.
